Drum Bar
Drum Bar's enviable reputation was built on the solid foundation of its Hangover Service. Soothing sounds, sympathetic staff and generous portions of superb food made the hangover service the busiest Sunday in town. Of course since its expansion last year Drum has become a busy daytime restaurant in its own right, serving top quality food (not to mention the best breakfast in the world) from 10am to 6pm. Thankfully however the Hangover Service has lost none of its unique atmosphere in the bigger venue and in fact seems to have integrated itself into the overall feel of the bar.
As day becomes night, the busy daytime restaurant becomes a funky city centre bar. A built in DJ booth plays host to Galway's top acts playing everything from deep house through to trance, warming the crowd up for the club later on. The bar is warm and inviting, with plenty of space, loads of comfortable seating, modern décor and subdued lighting. Later in the night Drum is again transformed as it becomes part of the club after midnight. As you walk in from the club you enter a chill-out area which gives you a chance to get out of the insanity of the main floor, buy a drink and check out what entertainment is provided. If you descend a few steps you enter the larger part of Drum which is where the acts perform. The acts vary according to what's on in the club but expect to hear top acts like Bass Odyssey, and Bassballs. In fact if there's a big gig in Galway, the party's almost certainly in Drum afterwards. David Gray, Divine Comedy and all manner of international DJ's have enjoyed performing in this "local" for artists and musicians.
